Chaplaincy

September 2017

New Beginnings
A Celebration took place in St. Patrick’s Church, Skerries, on
September 14th, to mark the start of the new school year. The
Celebrant was Fr. Richard Hyland – outgoing Parish Priest in
Skerries. A beautiful celebration was led by our Emmanuel Choir
and our Music Students.

Lourdes 2017
Four of our Students travelled to Lourdes on September 15th,
having been commissioned at our School Mass. They went with
the Annual Oblate Youth Service Pilgrimage and looked after sick
and elderly guests for 8 days. We are incredibly proud of them as
each year the demand grows from students who want to offer their
time and talents to support others in need. This is the fourth year
we have been taking part in this Pilgrimage and are delighted to
see our students returning to Lourdes after their time with us…it has
become a Skerries Community College Family tradition!

Emmanuel Choir
Our Emmanuel Choir have been busy preparing and auditioning for
Emmanuel 2018 in the Helix. Schools from all over the Archdiocese
of Dublin have the opportunity to sing together over 4 nights. Our
school will be taking part on Tuesday February 27th 2018. All are
welcome!

Team Hope
This year we managed to wrap and fill 269 Shoeboxes for our
Annual Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal. We built a Wall of
Love and Hope and were thrilled to exceed our target again this
year!

St. Vincent de Paul Hampers
We work closely with the Skerries Conference of St. Vincent de
Paul to fill Food Hampers for local families in the weeks leading up
to Christmas. With the help of the Student Chaplaincy Team and
Class Tutors, the Class Captains work together to provide as many
hampers as we can. Last year, we filled over 40.

St. Michael’s House Christmas Party
Every year, our 6th Year Students host a Christmas Party for the
Students from St. Michael’s House, as part of our Senior Cycle Signum
Fidei Programme. This year’s party took place on Friday December
15th. There was lots of fun and games and treats and music and
dancing! It’s the highlight of the year for our own 6th Years!

C. I. T. C
Our Transition Years continue to blossom as they carry out their Care
in The Community Programme. One of their activities is helping
to provide hospitality in the Parish to elderly guests after Mass
every Friday morning. Along with the tea, they enjoy friendship and
fun with their guests and enjoy their time so much that they even
volunteer to help during school holidays too! This speaks volumes
about the warm welcome our students have always felt in the local
Community and the hard work and support of the Parish Team who
work tirelessly to support our College.

Student Chaplaincy Team 2017 – 18
The Student Chaplaincy Team are challenged to be Leaders and
Role Models; to support and promote the Christian ethos of our
College…to be living witnesses to our school motto ‘Signum Fidei’
The Team works alongside the School Chaplain and R.E. Team to
organise and run Religious, Spiritual and Charitable activities within
the school and local community.
