Transition Year

Transition Year is an optional one-year, school-based programme between Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle. The Transition Year programme is conducted according to Department of Education and Skill’s Guidelines.

The Transition Year offers students an opportunity to engage in independent, self-directed learning; to develop a broad range of skills, and to mature and develop without the pressure of a state examination. It also caters for the student’s personal and social development with particular emphasis on increasing maturity and self-confidence.

Work Experience is a very important element of the Transition Year programme. Students undertake work experience over three weeks during the year. This experience will support students in making more informed choices about their subject selection for the Leaving Certificate and also for possible future career paths.
